This is an introduction to quilting that will focus on the completion of a small, usable quilt. Skills that you will learn in the classes include cutting, piecing, and pressing. In the later sessions we will concentrate on borders, basic machine quilting and the final class will be binding.
*Three coordinating fabrics, (I recommend a light, medium, and dark value) for your choice of sizes
Table runner (15”x40 ”) 1/3 yd. each, of three different fabrics
Baby (35”x45”) 2/3 yd. each, of three different fabrics
Lap (45”x55”) 1 ¼ yd. each, of three different fabrics
If you want to make a bigger size you can add a variety of borders, this will be discussed in class 2.
*Sewing machine, in working order; bring the manual and feet.
*Cutting mat, rotary cutter, 6×24 acrylic ruler, scissors, seam ripper
*Thread to blend with fabric choice, a neutral shade is usually good
*Straight pins
*Batting and backing and optional border fabric will be determined in class
*Paper and pencil
Please arrive 15 min. before class time to set up your machine in the classroom. Some people like to pre-wash their fabric, if you do so, have it pressed before class also. (Pre-washing assures that after your blocks are made, none of the fabrics will shrink differently or fade later.)
